What is a Feststellungsprüfung?

The “Feststellungsprüfung” (FSP) stands for the “Assessment Examination for the Determination of the Suitability of Foreign Applicants for Admission to Study at German Universities,” conducted by the District Government of Cologne. Not everyone is required to take this exam, as the grades of the secondary school diploma from the home country determine this. The choice of Studienkolleg course may also depend on the grades and elective subjects of the high school diploma in the home country. Which university/college can I apply to afterward?

If you successfully pass the FSP, you meet the formal admission requirements for the study programs associated with your specialization course. You can then apply for a place at universities or colleges throughout Germany.

What does the Feststellungsprüfung include?

Depending on the Studienkolleg course, different exams must be taken to pass FSP. There are three written exams and one oral exam. Click on T-course, M-course, W-course, G-course, or M+T-course for more information about the specialization courses.

How does the registration process work, and which documents are required?

For participants who started in the summer semester (February 1), the registration deadline is September 1 of the same year. For participants who started in the winter semester (September 1), the registration deadline is March 1 of the following year.

For your registration, you need the following documents, which should be sent by mail to the District Government of Düsseldorf:

• School certificates & transcript (copy must be certified)
• Translation of school certificates & transcript (copy must be certified)
• B2 certificate (copy must be certified)
• Passport/Visa (copy)
