Studienkolleg with A2 German level – is it possible? How to start anyway
You want to study in Germany, need to attend a Studienkolleg, but currently only have German skills at A2 level? Then you might be wondering whether you can already enter a Studienkolleg in Germany with that level. In this text, we simply explain how you can still start your path to studying with A2 German.
Studienkolleg with A2 in Germany – is it possible?
For most Studienkollegs in Germany, higher German language skills are already required. Classes are held entirely in German, so you need to understand the content well and also be able to study in German yourself.
To follow the lessons and pass the exams, the following requirements usually apply:
- B2 at public Studienkollegs
- B1 or B2 at private Studienkollegs
Studienkolleg courses not only prepare you in specific subjects such as mathematics, physics, or biology for the final exam (the so-called Feststellungsprüfung – FSP), but also intensively in the German language. The goal is that by the end of your Studienkolleg course, you reach C1 level so that you can understand everything in your degree program and meet the requirements of university studies.
That is exactly why most students start Studienkolleg with at least B1 German level, in order to realistically reach C1.
These requirements clearly show: with A2 German, direct entry is usually not yet possible because the language foundation is still not sufficient. However, that does not mean your journey stops here. You can already start preparing in a targeted way.
Studienkolleg Düsseldorf: Start already with A2
At Studienkolleg Düsseldorf, you can already start with A2 level. This is possible through our combined course, which is specifically designed for international students who do not yet have the required language level but want to study in Germany as quickly as possible.
The path consists of two important parts:
- German intensive course (up to B1 level)
- Subsequent Studienkolleg course of your choice (W, T, M, or M+T)
In this course, you start 2 months before the regular semester begins and first learn German intensively at B1 level, so that you become more confident in everyday life and in class. After that, you move directly into the Studienkolleg preparation course in Germany. This way, you not only improve your language step by step, but are also academically prepared for the Feststellungsprüfung (FSP).
Over the course of the program, you will also reach the required C1 language level that you will later need for studying in Germany.
